I met a foreign friend, a startup business entrepreneur, in Myanmar. We talk about many things, where he shared his opinion on Myanmar job seekers. He said ‘I rejected my interviewees because they need a job, not an opportunity’.
First I got weird for his word but steadily I came to understand what he means. It is what in Myanmar are happening. People just want job, not an opportunity. Because of that mind, they don’t care about what the company is and what the company is doing, they just care for their salary and job position. If salary is great even though the company is bad, they work for it. If the salary is small, they don’t accept the job offer from company even thought the company have big opportunities for them. Many young people today always see for salary and position. If they don’t get big salary and high position even it is a great company, they don’t catch the opportunity. Then I would like to suggest such kind of young people to ask themselves if they need the job or they need the opportunity.
I stand by you for the condition that we are working to survive in the city. After only getting enough income, we can only create a good livelihood. But it depends on circumstance and situation. If you are living in life with few worry for money, you should not see for high expected salary. But if you are poor and trying to survive in the city, you can count on it and compare salary of the companies. Whatever, you have a value standardized by the local policy and the labor law. I mean you cannot get more than 1000 USD if you are not qualified enough for a manager level. Even if you are in manager level, the salary depends also on the company budget.
I want to mention here is your mindset. Whatever the environment is changing, you should not change your attitude that you are finding opportunities to rise in life higher. You can find money by many way we can. But we are not living in live for finding money only. We are living in life to catch opportunities to do good deeds. Be a good opportunity finder!
