It is me standing in front of a bunch of people from NGO background and teaching them how to use Facebook for NGO work.
As I am working at Phandeeyar, a ICT hub and community, fostering tech, CSOs and journalist community to grow better, one of my task is to train people from CSOs to do good works online. There I found a difference between local and global NGOs. Global NGOs can do things online but local NGOs cannot.
Some people from them still don’t have emails. It was so then hard to train them about Facebook advocacy. I also learnt things from my co-worker, Sarah Oh. She trained them to have a very specific objective for their organization and campaigns. So then I found out another thing is most Myanmar people don’t have a specific goal, but general goal. They want to do lots of thing. I also want to do lots of thin. But we need to have a very specific goal first to achieve.
Not only many people from NGOs but also some people from start-up field are not having a targeted destination. For me, I can do PR, SEO, writing, social media, etc. But I cannot do all things if I really want to achieve in this business field. After only achieving something that we can do first, we can expand more.
Generally, most of them working in NGOs are weak in technology. They don’t have website, Facebook pages, etc. Those who have Facebook pages, cannot do very well on their pages. Two days were not enough to train them to become a professional. But it was a great initiative for Myanmar NGOs to improve their efficiency.
