Facebook has been working together with Myanmar volunteers to get Myanmar version Facebook. Today Facebook announced that Myanmar language for Facebook both desktop and mobile is available. It means you can use Facebook in Myanmar language.
The font is in Unicode Myanmar. Many Myanmar locals are using Zawgyi font and I don’t think people will be seeing the fonts shown by Facebook on site. What I’m expecting more from now on is auto translation for status and comments on Facebook. As far as I know, Facebook is in partnership with Bing for translation. We can translate any Facebook recognised texts into English language texts. Now we hope those texts to be translated into Myanmar texts. It will help a lot to local Facebook users to be dealing with international brands and media.
Facebook has been the top website in Myanmar. There are more than 4.5 millions active users today in Myanmar. I believe their engagement is too much higher than engagement from U.S. Beside language availability, Facebook is also opening opportunities for local developers to use Facebook API and developing tools. Facebook advertising platform is also accessible and usable with MasterCard issued by local banks. I believe Facebook will still rule internet in Myanmar for next five years.
