Omidyar Network is looking for a talented entrepreneurial individual to support Omidyar Network’s activities in Myanmar. A successful applicant will have a keen understanding of the ground realities in Myanmar, a passion for social change and a focus on execution. As an ON Associate, the individual will proactively scope and manage investments and work towards establishing ON as a key influencer in priority sectors.

Over the last year, Omidyar Network has invested close to $5 million in Myanmar to support organizations working towards good governance, fiscal transparency, independent media, land rights and technology for social change. In addition to these sectors, ON is actively looking to invest in making financial services and utilitarian technologies available to underserved segments. ON grantees include Phandeeyar (a civic technology hub), Open Myanmar Initiative (parliamentary watchdog), Yangon Journalism School, Global Witness (extractives and land right advocacy organization) amongst others.
•Portfolio management: Support ON portfolio organizations in Myanmar. This would include, amongst other things, assistance in strategy formulation, business operations, human resource management, financial management (audit/reporting) and governance.
•Sourcing and diligence: Scope investment opportunities in accordance with ON strategy. Support due diligence, documentation and execution.
•Sector expertise: Build ON’s expertise in focus sectors and keep ON team informed of key developments on the ground. Participate in refining ON’s country strategy. Build relevant relationships and enroll partners to further ON’s objectives.
•Policy expertise: Understand rapidly evolving policy environment and help shape ON’s strategy accordingly.
•ON brand ambassador: Evangelize ON’s mission and strategy with the specific aim of strengthening ON’s capability to influence key individuals and institutions towards social impact at scale.
•Country expertise: A deep understanding of Myanmar landscape with an appreciation of social, political and economic realities on the ground is a pre-requisite. Strong preference for Myanmar nationals.
•Sector Experience: Preference for experience in any of the following sectors: governance, technology, financial services, media, civil society/NGOs, land rights.
•Communications: Excellent communication skills with great written and spoken Myanmar and good written and spoken English skills is a must.
•Investment/grant making: Experience in evaluating investment/grant opportunities. Acumen for understanding business models, evaluating viability of initiatives and monitoring portfolio is preferred.
•Entrepreneurial/ execution skills: Ability to initiate new ideas, convince the right people and get things moving on the ground quickly.
•Social change: Passion and dedication for working towards positive social impact in the difficult context of Myanmar.
•Academic qualification: Bachelors degree with at least 4-5 years of work experience required. Masters degree preferred.
