Today is International youth day. There are some events in Myanmar for it. International Youth Day (IYD) is an awareness day designated by the United Nations. The purpose of the day is to draw attention to a given set of cultural and legal issues surrounding youth. The first IYD was observed on 12 August, 2000. As I am 23 years old youth, I would like to give you the following messages.
1) Try to take responsibility, not a place or title
It is what Daw Aung San Su Kyi said to young people in Myanmar. I agree with it. As you can see that many young people in Myanmar are asking for quality education, quality life, quality jobs and so on. Why are they not thinking to make it happen by themselves? That is the problem in Myanmar.
2) Do it for changing the world, not for being famous only
You wanna be famous or be a person who change the world? Don’t lie yourself. Most youths want to become a topic story in front of news paper and journals. It happen the most in Myanmar. They want people appreciate them for their achievement. Actually people only appreciate to those who do good for environment.
3) Don’t collect certificates. Learn for life
Some youths are collecting certificates and degrees. They think it can grantees them for high pad job. They also think Master, Bachelors and many other education paper can impress them. Actually, they cannot. Learning is for a life time. Most youths think they don’t need to learn more for their working life.
4) Share opportunities and your knowledge
Many youths in Myanmar are not having habit of sharing opportunities and sharing good things. They have many opportunities and news about education, jobs and so on. But they don’t want to share it to others. They think if other get it, they will not get it again. As being born in poor country, young people don’t know about the benefit of sharing. Even also some don’t want to share their knowledge. They think other will excel them if they share.
There I still have many things to tell to Myanmar youths. I also appreciate to some youths who are really doing great in Myanmar. Like in the movie of dawn of the planet of apes, I’d like to say ‘Youths, together, strong’ and youths build the country strong.
