With my small brain in the past, I thought it’s totally wrong spelling money by supporting an actress to promote the products. For example, as you could see in the picture, Oppo is promoting their brand by promoting a music concert of Waine Su Khaing Thein, a local famous female singer. Oppo in Myanmar is spending money to promote their brand by using the celebrity’s image.
Today, I see it in right way that is they are spending right for marketing. First, Waine Su Khaing Thein is current hot celebrity in Myanmar. Every young generation know her and even some middle age people like her. So now Oppo got knew via Waine Su Khaing Thein. She is going to be a brand ambassador or may be already one. I don’t know exact information. But the fact is true. Huawei in Myanmar got Wutt Hmone Shwe Yi, a local famous model and actress. Samsung got Sai Sai Kham Leng as an ambassador.
By promoting brands by celebrities, brands are competing to influence the market. My thought was very narrow in the past that it’s useless. When measuring success and sale increase volume, celebrities are playing a big role. It’s easy to win the heart of the people by winning their favorite celebrities. It’s very traditional and but still a good way to do.
I was very talking to people to use lots of money online to promote the brand. But it’s still have a limit. Internet coverage is 70 percent in Yangon. It’s quiet hard to reach other areas. Only advertising via television, radio and newspaper can reach to them. When you think of increasing market volume in rural area in Myanmar, you cannot depend on online today much. So that you have to make a formal advertisement in graphical content. In those content, it’s better you use local celebrities as a role model for products. So using celebrities as a weapon in your marketing strategy is still a good and yes, may be the best way.
